In 1936, Dundee Dramatic Society bought and converted the top two floors of this former jute warehouse into the Little Theatre. A bar area was added in a later extension. The Society still owns, runs and maintains the building – performing four shows a year and hiring out the venue to generate funds.
A wonderful and intimate venue, our auditorium seats just over 100 people, and is fully equipped with lighting and sound. Our licensed bar and coffee bar area seats around 30.
The top floor houses our extensive wardrobe, furniture and props, as well as the Green room and changing areas where performers can prepare and relax between shows.
Accessibility
We are accessible for an audience – there is a ramp to access the theatre from the Hilltown side (although the route to the ramp is quite steep), so our advice is to access the building from Eadie’s Road car park (off of Forebank Road). This car park has a gently sloping ramp that leads to the theatre entrance.
The coffee bar and auditorium are on one level and there is a disabled access toilet. There is one wheelchair space in the auditorium.
The member only areas are not wheelchair accessible. The building is over 100 years old, and member areas (access to the dressing room, green room and stage) are spread across varying levels, narrow corridors and steep staircases.
